The author was awarded the Fulbright-Hays grant for the maximum period of three years to research on English and American literature. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree, major in English, from Siliman University, Dumaguete City, Philippines; and a Master of Arts degree in Comparative Literature from the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines. She completed the course work toward the Ph .D. degree in Literature from Northern Illinois University, Dekalb, Illinois.

After completing her course work for the Ph.D. degree, the author decided to leave the academe to devote her time to research and write on subjects which she deems are relevant to the “human condition”
