The author has been learning to cope with depression through his use of writing and photography. This venue of self-expression has become a means of attempting to define and to understand its effects. Hopefully, the poetry and photography of “sparrow” as well as his previous writings in “a handful of fragments” will, in turn, offer further insight and awareness of mental depression to its readers. Moreover, it is hoped that “sparrow” will be empathetic to those who may have experienced first-hand accounts of the illness.
