George R. MacClanahan has, for his entire life, been guided by a passion to discover what lies on the other side of the mountain. Going off to war in December of 1941 gave him his first opportunity to pursue that goal. The same curiosity and lust for adventure sent him North along the highway to Alaska in summer 1950, this time accompanied by his newfound wife, Mary, who shares his enthusiasm for the exploration of out-of-the-way places.
