Dov Ronen was born in Hungary, survived the Holocaust there, and migrated to Israel, where he studied and taught at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem. He has been affiliated with Harvard University for the last thirty-two years, nineteen of them at its [Weatherhead] Center for International Affairs. He is now Lecturer on Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at the Harvard Medical School.
