A true survivor, Andrejs Eglitis was born in Latvia in 1925. His childhood was a happy and carefree time during Latvia’s period of freedom, until 1939 when the Russians invaded his peaceful homeland and life as he knew it drastically changed forever. The Second World War came to Latvia first in the form of Communist Russia and then Nazi Germany. Andrejs’ skills, ingenuity, and strong will helped him stay alive and escape to freedom. Starting a new life in the United States and raising his own family gave him great pride, but he never forgot his home in Latvia and the family he left behind.
