Biography:

Jane Meyerding has published three previous mystery novels, two of them featuring Kay Schneider, and, over the decades, many non-fiction essays and book chapters on topics ranging from nonviolent activism to autism. Like Kay, she is autistic and faceblind, lives in Seattle, and tends to find relations easier with non-human animals. Other than that and walking a lot, however, she and Kay have relatively little in common, except being members of the same species and gender alive on the same speck of cosmic geography in the same nanosecond of geologic time.

2 .
Ambivalent Advocate
Kay Schneider knows autism from the inside, so she knows how much autistics differ from one another. Although the idea of an individual autistic murderer does not astonish her, the stereotype of autistic people as violent offends her core sense of justice. Only a motive that strong, combined with her concern for the suspect’s young autistic daughter, along with love for a lost dog, could persuade her to advocate for a man she believes is guilty. Where her advocacy leads her logical mind is to a conclusion that threatens to conclude her own existence. read more
