Biography:

Born on a farm in Grand Chain, Illinois, May 12, 1915, Harry C. Walker was orphaned at 11 years of age and taken in by his 79 year old Aunt Jane. With her support, love, and his willingness to work, he was able to attend McKendree College and Southern Illinois. He eventually received a master’s degree in Education and Social Studies. The author invested 49 years in the field of education, first in teaching and then in administration. Uncle Sam and WWII interrupted Harry’s love for teaching, however, when he was sent on a real adventure to help build the Burma Road though the Huck-Cong Jungle for two and a half years. After publishing Leaves From His Family Tree in 1991, Mr. Walker’s wife, Wanda, daughter, Sharon, and son, Lynn, convinced him to put some of his remarkable WWII experiences into print.
