This collection of poetry is dedicated to you: the lost soul – the misguided; the duped, the hung over, and the completely fed up.

Abstract:
Have you been duped? You woke up one morning and found yourself thinking, This is it? This is all there is? You’re wondering what happened to the dreams you cherished during childhood. You had such high hopes and ideals for your adult life. You’re a good person – you’ve got originality and pizzazz – so what happened? You never seem to find what you’re looking for. Does Prince Charming always turn out to be Prince Jackass? Are you so kind-hearted that you find yourself routinely taken advantage of? Feeling a bit hung over, are you? This collection of poetry is dedicated to you: the lost soul

  Great book!! , 06/10/2005

This book was really good and I'm glad I got it. It has 5 parts. Duped, Male Species, Uniqueness (the light chapter of the book), Humanity, and Hung Over. The author's poetry is thought provoking but she also comes across as edgy and blunt. (I like that she tells it like it is on each issue, whether you agree with it or not) Each poem makes you think and there's a message to each one too. If there's any women out there who go for bad boys, buy this book!! (for Crystal's Man Problem alone its worth it!) My favorite poems are Tara's Last Message (sad), The Player, Crystal's Man Problem, They Called themselves Soldiers. I highly recommend this book. There are some poems I wanna read over and over.

DUPED and HUNG OVER is... poetry that's blunt, poetry that's refreshing and honest, poetry that has soul, poetry that has a message, poetry that's easily understood, poetry that's loved by people who aren't fans of poetry, poetry that makes you think about life, poetry that exposes hidden truths, poetry that ponders human nature, poetry that calls out the fakes and frauds, poetry that addresses issues, poetry that explores complex emotions, situations, AND SO MUCH MORE! THIS IS HOW THE BOOK IS DESCRIBED ON HER WEB SITE, AND SHE WASN'T LYIN'!! I LOVED IT. GET IT TODAY!

  Good, but... , 06/25/2005
Reviewer: Reader
I liked the book overall. The author covers a number of subjects including everything from destructive relationships, poverty, rape, gender descrimination, school bullying, and alcoholism to major ego maniac-like poems (Hot Pepper Girl, No You Can't Have Him, Puppet Man). These poems have a self-absorbed air about them. That's fine, but the way the book is marketed, I expected the whole book to be ultra deep and thought-provoking. Don't get me wrong MOST of it is just that, but the section titled "Uniqueness" contains alot of light and airy poems (from the description of a hectic workday to a poem that blasts people with bad personal hygene). It's clear that the author definitely has some things to say though, and I'd still recommend this book because it is entertaining and I understood her messages. I never thought, "what's this about?" She has a forward style to her writing and often she throws in a surprise endings that throws you for a loop. Good book overall. Not so good book marketing... It's not a self help book - although she does give advice in her poetry if you look for it - but don't be misled by the description.

  Interesting book , 07/15/2005

The author does a pretty good job demonstrating through poetry how women are often their own worst enemies. That's the gist of what I got out of this book.

I loved this book!! Get it! I'm glad somebody finally has the courage to stand up and speak out about the issues in here and show that things aren't always rosy in the world.

  Opinionated and bitter , 08/30/2005
Reviewer: A Reader
Well, if you've been screwed over alot then this is the book for you. Duped and Hung Over...Enter the Poet is written with alot of bitterness which made for an intriguing read. Dana Myers is awfully opinionated about things though...namely abortion. That poem could've been left out, but other than that, I read Duped & Hung Over in the course of one evening and it was pretty damn good overall. I particularly liked how she wrote some poetry in the classic styles. There's a few villanelles, sonnets, etc. Dana wrote about contemporary issues in these forms and did well bringing the two together. I agree with the other review about the part UNIQUENESS: that was a waste. She could've done better there. I give it 3 stars.

  I loved it , 04/12/2006

I loved this book. To the person who posted and complained about the anti-abortion poem I've got one thing to say: Since when are people not allowed to have and express their own opinion? I thought the poem was beautiful and so what if she's pro-life. I think she has a right to her opinion. If you disagree, that's your business but don't just diss her book which was an engrossing read just because you disagree with her stance on abortion.

I hate reading poetry and I LOVED this book! I read it in a few hours time: that's how great it was. I love how her poems often end with a "Sucker Punch".

  Like a Diary , 04/19/2006
Reviewer: Frayed
Part of the appeal of this book is that it reads almost like the diary of a girl- turned woman -scorned. I agree with the above poster that even if you're not big into poetry you'll still like this book. I recommend it to young adults in particular.

From Friend to Friend , 04/21/2006
Reviewer: En Vogue 1
The Poet is essentially saying..."Don't worry, I've been there too. Let me tell you about it. This is what happened." There's empathy in these pages. A person betrayed, abandoned, or ostrocized speaking to others in that boat. Then of course you've got some poems that are peppy like "Girls Night Out", "Fashion Senseless, Hygeine Deficient"...There's something for everybody in this great little book!

  A must-read little book , 05/01/2006
Reviewer: Diane Rockwell
I believe what takes a book from average to the status of wonderful is its ability to stay with you long after you've put it down. I was quite touched by this book as a person who has struggled through hardships and addiction for the past twelve years. I found myself thinking about "Tara's Last Message" and "Child Deprived" late at night while trying to sleep. You take this book with you. somehow.

  what a hypocrite , 05/03/2006
Reviewer: Me
Nice guys finish last. I'm sicka "my boyfriend left me, he cheated, he got with my friend, he beat me", etc., etc. and that's what this book is full of. It's hypocritical because you've got a poem in here called The Player. It puts down the womanizers and dawgs, but then she went and wrote Puppet man and dawged nice guys. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is cuz there are some other subjects about different stuff like addiction, but most of it is, "Boo-hoo my man left me. What am I gonna do."

Not Just Male Bashing , 05/12/2006
Reviewer: Jessica Zinner
Although there's some of that going on here, that's certainly not all this book indulges in. However, her blatant disgust with cheaters and wimps is part of what makes this book such a winner. But there's plenty more to say about this book. Here's a list of what you'll find between the covers. She attacks... Terrorism School- She obviously hated it. War Alcoholism Abortion Racism Poverty Uncleanliness Disloyal friends Loneliness Rape Abandonment In short, there's something for everybody in this book. She even has a poem about exercise to motivate people to get active. I agree with the poster who said it's almost like a journal rather than just poetry. There's alot of talk regarding the "Male Species", but hey...men could learn how NOT to treat a woman from this book! The only downside to "Duped and Hung Over" is that it's independently published and therefore, hard to find!

  Female Empowerment , 05/14/2006
Reviewer: Viewer
I totally disagree with the posts that say her book is full of male bashing. If anything, I think she'd tough on the ladies. The recurring theme is for women to stop wearing blinders when their significant other is treating them in an unacceptable manner. She's saying to get out of denial, remove your blindfold, and put your foot down!

I don't know how the reviewer above can cll this book "female empowerment" when the author is so vehemently against a woman's right to choose.

well i havent read this book but sounds pretty good to me.......and hey feminist you need to chill out. there are a lot of pro life people out there and there should be more. how is it any womans right to chose whether or not a person can live?? there is only one right choice, the choice that 2/3 of all mothers to be make, the choice that my mother made when she put me up for adoption, and the choice that saved millions of babies from a painful death. regardless of what the masses are saying I CHOOSE LIFE!!

KINDA TRASHY AT TIMES , 06/09/2006
Reviewer: Pamela
There is some trashy and crass language in this book. CRYSTAL'S MAN TROUBLE, VINDICTIVE FRIEND, and BLISS IS B.S. all have profanity in them which I didn't like. I give it 3 stars however, because the poetry without the 4 letter words was supurb.
