Book Excerpt
I put down the book. I wanted more from it. Dont get me wrong, it was a marvelous book. In fact, it was well worth reading. It just didnt give me what I needed to help me in my church.
I had studied Family System Theory when I was in seminary. I was very impressed with it. I was more impressed when the theory was applied to churches; after all, churches are systems too. But, after years of working in congregations, I didnt need more theory; I needed more assessment and coaching about MY congregation
The book you are holding is a culmination of years of study in the fields of linguistics, semantics, system thinking and management. It is different. It is written as an assessment tool so you can find out more about your church system.
By finding out more about your unique situation you can be better at directing programs and staff, channeling energy and resources, averting stressful pit-falls, and deal more smoothly with change and distress.
The process is meant to be engaging, fun, easy, stimulating, and on-going.
Give it a try. Think about your unique situation. Think about each exercise in the book. Go back after a time an re-evaluate. Observe, record, think, create, evaluate your own personal and unique church system. Chart your own course through the sea of ministry.
