" IN THE NAME OF LOVE "
“Delivering the Goods”
I had this all planned out well, Diana Mary and Cindy was supposed to all receive the film around the same time but things don’t always go according to plan. The moment the lid came off the pot things start going wrong.
On January 23, 2008 three packages were sent out. One to Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong. Mary’s was delivered first. After that, about two weeks later Cindy’s was delivered. It was some problem with the delivery for Cindy and it was about to be returned. Then delivery was confirmed. Diana Ross package was returned to me weeks later marked undeliverable at that address. Mary and Cindy had a copy of the film and Diana Ross was about to hear it through the grapevine. This was not looking good at all. Word was spreading fast across America and the United Kingdom regarding the existence of this film titled “In The Name of Love” about a reunion of Diana Ross and the Supremes. Shortly after this I had received an e-mail from Ro’ with an attachment of a message that was posted on Cindy MySpace page allegedly written by Cindy, The part of this message that got me was these words Cindy allegedly posted: I speak with Diana and Mary from time to time and there has been some talk of a possible forthcoming event involving the three of us.
I believe this was referring to the film “In The Name of Love” but looking back on it now, a little over one year since this posting was made public, nothing involving the three of them had materialized yet, so I would bet my dollar that the statement was in reference to the film In The Name Of Love. In less than 48 hours after Cindy’s alleged written message went public it was removed from her page.
When I was informed that Cindy package was having trouble being delivered we reached out to her again for an alternate address. I received an e-mail response allegedly from Cindy through her page moderator that suggested that I contact a gentlemen name Billy Wilson who is president of the Motown Alumni Association in Detroit. The e-mail said Mr. Wilson has all the addresses to the Motown stars including Berry Gordy.
This e-mail had been forwarded to me via Ro’, who initially contacted a gentleman who put her in contact with Cindy’s page moderator. I received this e-mail before Diana Ross's package was returned to me.
We decided to reach out to Mr. Wilson with hopes of getting the film to Berry Gordy. Dorian joined the Motown Alumni Web site and sent Mr. Wilson a message. I really didn’t like going any of these routes because I knew information would start spreading like a wildfire, but I had to get the film into the ladies hands and now I had included Berry Gordy on that list. I had to trust somebody.
Mr. Wilson immediately responded to the e-mail and asked us to forward the film to him at Hitsville Ventures, and he would view the film and then let us know what he could do to help. I was ok with that. I still haven’t gotten the film to Diana Ross yet so I was open to help at this point. I packaged the film with a letter to Mr. Wilson and sent it off. Almost two weeks went by before we heard from Mr. Wilson. I decided to call him. Dorian and I were on a three way with Billy. I explained that I still needed to get the film to Diana Ross and he offered to send it to her on our behalf. Billy gave us some advice and constructive criticism. Overall he liked the film, the effort and the presentation he said. I offered to send him a fresh package to forward to Diana but he said he would send her his copy. Bad move. I should have insisted she get a fresh copy because the one I sent him had some audio problems with it and now he was forwarding this to Diana, or even worse, a copy of his copy. About two weeks went by before Dorian and I called again and Mr. Wilson confirmed to us on a three way call that he had spoken with Diana’s people and informed them about the film and he forwarded the film to them. Mr. Wilson also confirmed that the film was received by Diana and that she signed for it herself. That was that, the film was allegedly in the hands of Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong. Mission Accomplished I hoped.
I didn’t expect to hear anything from the ladies anytime soon so I had already planned to go right to work on this book, and start planning a lavish premiere screening for the cast once I had done all I could do to get the film in their hands. It’s been two years in the making and I needed a break. Now I was about to relive the entire experience by writing this book. The cast really deserved something special for their effort and hard work. I know I wanted to do a big event for them. I had always hyped too them in production about the big Red Carpet event that would take place for them when the film was complete and sent to the ladies. I had no idea how I was going to pay for all this but I had to make it happen. I was broke. All the funds I had went into making the film.
