At the Buckley farm Pete had just untied Widow Helen Buckley and Gloria Dever. Holding a gun in his hand and waving it around he said, “Now I don’t want you two to cause me any trouble. I have too much at stake in this operation. I planned well and nobody knows where Gloria is being held for ransom. I told her folks that if they called the police, I would kill her. They are now gathering sixty five thousand dollars and in two days I will call and tell them where to deliver it.”

“You will never get away with this,” said Gloria. “My brothers will gather their log cutting friends and no matter where you go, they will find you. My friend Dave will finish off whatever is left of you.”

“I am not worried. Your boyfriend Dave don’t even know that you have been kidnapped. I told your family if they told the police, I would kill you.”

“Nephew, God will punish you.” said Widow Buckley. “You are a killer and I think you murdered my husband.”

“They were never able to prove anything. I told you, I’m smart, my plans all work. Now, the dairy cow is mooing, go milk her.” Pete felt real good telling his former boss what to do.

“I’ll help you.” volunteered Gloria.

When they arrived at the barn, Helen said, “Take the pail and start the milking. Have you done this before?”

“Yes, I’ve done some milking of our goats up in the timber country.”

“Good. I will go up into the loft and see if I can see what is going on at the Smith ranch. This morning there was some extra activity over there. It was not normal this time of year.”

After a couple of minutes, Helen came down and said, “I was right and I saw one car marked ‘Oasis Motel’ I wonder what is going on?”

Gloria let go a squeal, “Oh Helen, he is here, he is here! I knew he would find me.”

“What are you talking about? Who is here?”

“Dave, my man. Don’t you see? That is Pops’ car. The family must have called Pops and told him that I had been kidnapped and he called Dave. They must be making plans to capture Pete without me getting killed. They must find a way to get Dave into this house and we must help them.”

“Well Pete is not the only one who has plans.” said Helen. “We must have a plan also.”
