"Hello," Juan nervously answered the phone in the boat house, knowing it would be the call he never wanted to take.

"Can you talk?"

"What do you want?" Juan could feel a tightness in his chest.

"It's not what I want," the cold voice explained. "It's what they want."

"What?"

"Take out the son. Make sure no one can find the body. That will keep Ashlee and Ken busy for a year or two, looking for their missing kid."

"I told you I can't kill a baby," Juan protested.

"If you want to stay alive, you will do as you are told, and you will do it tomorrow." The phone went dead.

Ken entered the house through the kitchen, then proceeded to the den, hoping to find Ashlee sitting on the sofa, recuperating from surgery as the doctor had ordered. He found the den empty and was headed for the bedroom when the color red appeared in the corner of his eye. He turned and walked toward the foyer and only then, did he realize the red was blood.

The first body was riddled with bullet holes and laying close to the front door. The other body was in the living room. Blood splattered the wall and the funiture, and pieces of a brain were stuck to the wall.

Ken felt his heart had stopped. He ran into the bedroom and checked the bath and closets. He ran upstairs to the nursery. It was empty. He checked every room upstairs. From there he ran down two flights of steps to the basement. He returned upstairs with the knowledge that he was the only living person in the house.
