1000 Word Excerpt
I jumped off the bus at Front Street, and checked my watch-2:00 a.m. Looking at the railroad station across the street, I reminisced about the day almost a year ago, when I boarded the train for Indiantown Gap, with Jean and Louise, holding hands and crying under a dripping umbrella. In contrast to that day, a full moon beamed its light over the station and through the trees that lined Front Street.
"Don't the moon look lonesome shining through the trees?"
I danced and pranced with my duffel bag, on a carpet of moonlight up Keystone Avenue to the front door, where I had first kissed Jean. It seemed like eons ago. When I saw the living room light on, I peered in and saw her sleeping on the couch. Leaving my duffel bag on the porch, I quietly turned the knob on the front door, sneaked in, crept to the edge of the couch, and whispered in her ear, "Sleeping Beauty, do not be alarmed. It's you Prince Charming , who has come to awaken you after a hundred years." With her eyes still closed, she stirred, and whispered, "Prince Charming, kiss me and I shall awaken. Did you leave your white charger our front, tied to the mailbox post?"
" No, I have it right here in my pants."
"Away with you, you scoundrel, but kiss me first."
After a long passionate kiss, she said, "Please Stay." It was a long sleepless night.
"Here we are, In a cozy chair Wishing on a wishbone From the Frigidaire. Two sleepy people By dawn's early light And too much in love to say goodnight."
At 7:30 a.m. Jean said, "You must go home, I have to go to work."
We stood embracing in the hall. Even without sleep, I was wide awake. "Give me five minutes more, only five minutes more in your arms."
