Abstract:
CELLS DIVIDE is an edge-of-the-seat, page-turning drama that displays the raw brutality of prison life, and how pure humanity can triumph even in that environment. It pits unbridled evil and racial hatreds against the decency of two men. Jason Fleming, a middle-aged white man wrongly convicted of murdering his beauty queen wife, suddenly finds himself in the hell of Creedmore Correctional Facility. Uninitiated into the viciousness of jail, he is quickly set upon by prison toughs and repeatedly beaten and raped. His one hope for survival is a forgotten black ‘lifer’ named Red Paterson. But Red is beset by his own demons. His fellow lifers, men he has been in the joint for twenty years and have been kind of a family, are disappearing. Transferred by a psychotic warden to other jails, they are never heard from again. Only if Jason and Red find a way across race and class barriers to help each other is there any chance for Jason to maintain his sanity, and for Red to unravel the mystery of his missing brothers.
