This is about the life of a slave owner’s son and a slave girl, growing up together on a plantation during the 1800’s, their secret love affair, and of the Negro slaves whom he bought and set free.

This fictional novel, was inspired by a story that was told by an elderly Negro woman whose mother was a slave on a plantation in South Carolina, and she claimed to be the daughter of a slave girl, and the son of the farmer who once owned her mother as a slave. It tells of the problems and heartaches this white boy and slave girl suffered because of their relationship, and the deaths of his slaves who were killed by hooded-mobs of white men, when he became a plantation owner. This story tells things as they really happened, and sheds light on many things that no other writer has dared mention before. Because this story is about the South, and by a Southern writer makes it even more intriguing, and it will be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys reading about the Civil War era.

This was very well written and I stayed ticked off for most of the book because of the way the slaves were treated. Good story but it seems unreal that humans could be so mean. My good friend's cousin wrote the book and that is how I came about reading it. One you start reading it is hard to put it down,
