Abstract:
Readers follow Offa’s Dyke Path along the ancient border between Wales and England. They experience the sensory offerings of a green countryside and learn what it takes to through-hike a Long Distance Trail. With Zen Buddhist “tenets” in her pocket each day, the author reflects, with humor and grace, on hiking mindfully. Poems in haiku form capture moments of clarity. Informed descriptions of Welsh culture and borderlands history enrich trail descriptions and are supplemented by appendices for Welsh language and history plus aids for readers inspired to set off by themselves. An unusual solo journey to savor and share.
