An excellent narrative of an industry which I had no prier knowledge. Through the eyes of her mother, Ms Lane, takes the reader on a first hand account of the daily lives of these extraordinary courageous families, sending there men of to the powder mill to do their very dangerous work, With a constant fear that at days end they may never come home. The historical significance along with the first hand personal accounts makes this book a thoroughly enjoyable read

An easy to read memoir that educates the reader about a long-forgotten industry and its importance to our country. I would like to read more about the early days of gunpowder making and the brave men who worked in them. Highly recommend this book!

This book, like Peril in the Powder Mills, was a very educational and informative. It brought the personal touch to the lives of everyone connected to the making of powder. Being from the area, and knowing the streets of Valley Falls, the story line made me feel like I was there. I would recommend, this book to any one.
