Decades of thought and poetry about joy and sadness, merriment and spirituality, and other stuff that emerges from life experiences. From the profound to the ridiculous would be a fair evaluation!

Abstract:
UPHILL and DOWNHILL -- and Everywhere In-between is a compilation of thoughts and poems written over many years and in styles appealing to the old and the young. In two “booklets”, it covers the gamut of life experiences from joy to sadness, merriment to spirituality, questionings to awakenings, and profoundness to ridiculousness. A third “booklet” contains lyrics of songs--some in English and French--concerning hope, love, gratitude, wonderment, prayer, nature, merriment, and many other human emotions and experiences. Included are also two children’s songs: “The Alphabet Song,” and “Heidi and Polka” (about a dog and cat).

What a delight to relive life's ups and downs by reading the author's poetry, which covers the gamut of life's experiences. Just last night, I was listening to a talk show during which the author of a book on aging was interviewed. He explained that we hit a specific age in life & remain there in our heads.... For instance, he mentioned that he remains at age 35 even though his body is beyond that age. I had never thought of this although I have often stated that I don't feel any older than I did years ago...at least not in my head. That interview revealed that remaining at a specific age in one's mind is a common experience, which Connie Lemonde so beautifully questioned in her poem: I WONDER WHY? I feel as though I could have written this poem and many others since they describe my experiences, my soul. Could this mean that we are all one, that we all go through the same phases despite our apparent differences? Whatever, I do thank Connie Lemonde for sharing her life with us, with me.

UPHILL, DOWNHILL & EVERYWHERE IN BETWEEN arrived in the mail Tuesday, just as visitors were knocking at the door. Since the family was spending a few days with us, and since most of us enjoy poetry, we spent that evening reading Connie Lemonde's poetry aloud, taking turns. What an enjoyable experience for each of us, even for the one person, who isn't really into poetry. Reading expressively and acting out the varying emotions described in each poem brought the reader and "audience" back to the time when the poems were composed. We found the poems all the more interesting because Ms Lemonde included the date some of them were composed. This helped us touch the emotional depth of certain poems by allowing us to relive a definite period in OUR lifetime, for instance, when we were in grammar school, or the Spring of 1966 when one was a child and the rest of us were young adults. This was our first experience EXPERIENCING poetry in such a vivid manner. Thank you, Connie, for that.

Poetry that sings with an emotional impact that will grab your soul. The book is actually a Journey through time that I am sure you will enjoy. If you like Poetry will love this book. You will probably find part of yourself in some of these poems that are infused with timeless wisdom. There are glimpses of the Author’s youthful emotional idealism being shattered by reality in the earlier poems and her resilient strength in the latter ones. An exceptional collection of writing sure to capture the heart and mind of the reader. There are even song lyrics. A beautifully done book.
