Abstract:
The Boca Yente’s Slice of Life is a series of 85 humorous essays dealing with topics such as the hardships of threading a needle (do you look over or under the bifocal) and the trials and tribulations of finding a good Chinese restaurant open at Christmas. The BocaYente discusses the pros (golf) and cons (hurricanes) of living in the Jewish Homeland of Florida, women’s issues, and the lifestyles of the nouveau old. You’ll laugh with the BocaYente when she entertains you with her story of moving to Florida, and you’ll empathize when she begs her husband to have a hearing test. You’ll enjoy many, more hilarious vignettes.

This book is a collection of light and humorous stories. It's easy reading, and some of the stories really hit home for this snowbird-wannabe. Thanks to the author for putting a big smile on my face with her style!

Picked up Boca Yente to read at 10:50 pm in bed last night ....couldn't put it down, continued reading until after midnight which left me a whopping 5 hours of sleep before my alarm went off in the morning.....laughed out loud.. it's amazing that I can speak so loudly and clearly to my husband about certain things and he can't seem to hear me (must have what Jerry has) but when I read this book and chuckled out loud, but quietly mind you, that he hears and responds with "sssshhhhh". Amazing....my soft chuckles he hears....he's probably just jealous that I was having so much fun in bed and it didn't involve him.

  Good medicine , 01/26/2005
Reviewer: Jerry Rosenzweig
Once I started reading this book, I felt as if I knew the family. After reading a few stories, I set the book down, only to pick it up, with a smile, while anticipating another humorous story. It is said that humor is good medicine. This book should be prescribed.

  Erma Bombeck Reincarnated ! , 01/27/2005
Reviewer: Leonard Osterman
To compare Phyliss Dinerman and Erma Bombeck is unfair to both. Each has her own sense of humor, observations on every day situations and philosophy on life, but they share a sense of humanity and enjoy the foibles of themselves and those around them. Phyllis writes with a Jewish ethnicity, but the situations and reactions are universal. I recommend "Slice of Life" to one and all.
