Abstract:
Just Notice – Just This: The Body and Mind of the Yogas is a book intended to help students of yoga broaden their understanding and expand the applications of these ages-old techniques. Included are 33 illustrated physical exercises, four breathing techniques, and 42 original essays. These broad-based essays illustrate that yoga is much more profound than merely an exercise system. Also included are outline-form suggestions and guidelines for creating and maintaining a yoga practice.

An excellent guide with an overview of yoga and establishing a yoga practice. The instructions and pictures for the postures and breathing techniques are exquisitely clear. However, my favorite parts are the essays, best read one at a time with time to "just notice" and let the reading settle into the reader. This belongs on the shelf of everyone who practices yoga or has a beginning interest.

This book is the most inspirational yoga book I have ever read. Not only is it uplifting, but it is such a complete teaching tool for all yoga students. In addition, the individual essays are quite thought-provoking. I highly recommend Richard Stathem's book to everyone interested in yoga.

Without a doubt, the best book on the market regarding the principles of Yoga. Written in a way that benefits an individual with no previous yoga experience, the book expands the typical understanding of yoga as merely exercise to a broader understanding of the centuries of philosophic thought involved in a yogic way of life. Beautifully written essays comprise the second half of the book. All are thought provoking examples of how to translate yogic principles into a practical guide for everyday life. In brief this is an exercise book for both the body and spirit.
