This story explores the rich, colorful, and sometimes ugly past of our nation’s history from colonial times to the present. As the Latin inscription on our money prompts us, “E. Pluribus Unum” – “Out of many, One.” This is a story that demands to be revisited by young and old before it slips into obscurity.

Abstract:
The history of a family has been chronicled from the time of the arrival in Charles Town, South Carolina in 1684 of the progenitor, David Davis from Wales,. The written and oral history, lend a unique insight into the evolution of this American saga with its intertwining of European and African lives. By 1794 the fourth generation of Davises had settled in Fairfield County, South Carolina, where Thomas Davis and his sons accumulated slaves and extensive land holdings that, at one time, exceeded more than 3,000 acres. The story gives a vivid picture of their lives, marriages, and children.
