Abstract:
Dear Family presents a series of letters written by an Army draftee to his family during World War II, beginning with his military training from 1940 through 1943 and culminating with his combat experiences in the European theatre of combat in 1944 and 1945. The letters, compiled and commented upon for clarification sake by the Editor, provide a look back to a significant part of US history through the writings of a participant. The insightfulness and humor of the soldier are in evidence throughout his writings, from grim anticipation at the beginning through the combat phase at the end.
