Abstract:
In the separate world of teens and adults, meet two sassy “tween” girls, exact opposites, who decide to eat smart and change their body image. Join Olive and Amy O as they reluctantly draw on grownups to give them the expertise and knowledge they need to combat unhealthy eating, inactivity, and fast food to change their body shape. Shy, plump Olive finds her voice as she writes about their successes and sabotages, while the super opinionated Amy O who secretly hates her own lanky body, learns how to become healthier too. This is not only a humorous book about healthy activity and food, but a book about family, feelings, friendship, self-esteem and activism.

Enjoyable, fun, fact filled book designed to help children and young adults and their parents make healthy eating choices! Although the story stands on its own, it would also make a good curriculum choice for nutrition, biology or home economics classes. Stragihtforward information presented in an entertaining manner!

My Best Friend Ever is a kid's book written from a kid's point of view with a kid's sense of mischief and fun. It shows two girls tackling a problem of body image and weight control on their own and coming up with their own solutions. This author brings a unique perspective to this problem that many kids suffer from and usually just endure. In a way this book is a coming-of-age story. The girls are rebelling against the norm, finding the meaning of friendship, learning what examples to follow and what to reject from the adult world, and achieving the satisfaction of reaching their goals. Along the way they reach out to other kids to share what they have learned. Grandparents, parents, and teachers may want to take a second look at this book as a fun way to tackle healthy eating and exercise with loved ones and students.
