Abstract:
Palisade, located in the Grand Valley of the Colorado River in western Colorado was founded in 1894, just thirteen years after the region was first opened for settlement. It developed into a thriving agricultural community during the first half of the 20th century. The roads and bridges that were key to the growth of the area are reviewed. The school system underwent considerable change during the time. The several irrigation systems that serve the area surrounding Palisade are described. Not only the construction of these systems, but some of the political maneuvering behind the events is portrayed.
