Abstract:
In this story of the “Grandpa’s Fairy Tales” series, Grandpa tells the kids about Horatio the Hawk, who must overcome a handicap. This unusual young hawk with vision problems refuses to let that keep him from achieving his dreams of soaring flight. He is encouraged by his mom, Betty, and his athletic dad, Harold, who learns to cope with a son who is perceived to be nonathletic. Ultimately his dad makes it possible for Horatio to be able to fly for his school team, on an important competition day that tests them and the coaches.

Horatio the Hawk is a character that children will love. Because of a handicap, he is the underdog at his new school. He tries his best to fit in and excel at the flying exercises at the school. He makes some friends, but others shun him. I won't divulge all of the plot or the ending of the tale, however I want to say it is refreshing that Horatio's parents each play a role in the story.

Very Good I enjoyed reading it to the children of my friends. They liked the ideal of being different is ok, and that Horatio learns to fly well
