Abstract:
This book tells a true and unpublished role of the Igorots in WW II in Northern Luzon, Philippines. A 66th Infantry S.O.S. Call coded “CITY BUS” and a MacArthur reply coded “MANILA” buoyed the spirits of the civilians who endured enemy atrocities, raised root crops that supported the guerillas and American prisoners. It was the 66th Infantry that drove Japanese Gen. Tomoyuki Yamashita and his 40,000 troops to a desolate jungle where hunger and sickness contributed to his surrender. The Igorot Diary intertwines with the struggles, the dreams and hopes of the tribe who adhered their loyalty to America.
