Suddenly, without warning, a wild boar charged Patxi who was in the lead, tossing him off the trail into the stream some yards below. “Climb a tree, quick,” he managed to warn his friend Xavier. In spite of his heavy sack the alarmed boy managed to reach the lower branches safely out of the lethal tusks.

Abstract:
This is the story of a young Basque boy caught up in the tragedy and horror that was the Spanish Civil War. His idyllic life and faith in people are cruelly shattered by events over which neither he nor anyone else had control. Sheltered by his grandparents in their mountain farm, he discovers that an enemy can be a friend; that a friend can be an enemy; and that love is far more powerful than hate. He learns that all men are not evil and must be judged by their deeds, if judged at all.
