Abstract:
This book describes the author’s troubles as he grows from a young boy to an adult. Foremost in this process is his experience in the U.S. Army in the early 60s. His memories are described in an honest manner that depicts the confusion of many of the young soldiers who served in Vietnam. The young man finds he is ill prepared to deal with the trauma of fighting in a foreign land for unclear objectives. His personal successes and failures are intermingled with his training and experiences with the people of Vietnam.
