Abstract:
A continued life sheltered from slavery’s harshness dissolves when Rachel’s family arrives in Kentucky. Animosity between her twin sons and their younger stepbrother intensifies when the latter is chosen to work as a domestic servant while his brothers toil in the fields. After tragedy scatters the family across the south, fate brings the siblings together to race for freedom. Even with the aid of prominent Ohio Underground Railroad operatives in Ripley and Sandusky, will they reach freedom? Will those who survive, reunite and bond with each other, especially after revelations of dark family secrets, or will they remain estranged forever?
