Abstract:
Maple-leaf Rags is a collection of 47 short, often humorous, essays about life and work on a cattle-and-timber farm in Virginia’s Allegheny Mountains—and the occasional ideas and frequent lessons that arise thereon and therefrom. Seltzer rejects the idea that Highland County with a full-time population of 2,100, two lawyers and one blinking traffic light is isolated from the great issues of our times. These “Country Real Estate” op-eds were written in 2012 and distributed weekly to about 1,800 media outlets,
