Abstract:
Skissley’s strong sense of obedience and respect for her elders—namely Mama—is clashing head-on with her desire for personal freedom! At age eighteen she even starts wishing Mama would revert to thinking like the twenty-something mother she once was: the mother who told Skissley she never worried about her roaming hither and yon because “by age four she was already grown-up!” But Mama surely got it all backwards! Because now that Skissley really is grown-up, Mama has become bent on dominating her with an iron fist, leaving Skissley to crave the simple childhood freedom she once reveled in.
