Abstract:
Admiral Schofield is the result of an eleven-year odyssey of research, reading Schofield family letters, travel, interviewing family members, and sifting through photos and journals. The centerpiece of the project is the naval career of Frank Schofield, but as his sister wrote about their family, “Like the moon, we shine with reflected light.” The family member’s stories are woven together with their naval star’s career to provide a very personal look at the fifty dynamic years between the 1880s and the 1930s. MacAlpine provides a skillful narrative to provide context to the writings of the Schofield family members.
