Rich MacAlpine taught American history for thirty-four years in Oneida, New York. In retirement, he moved to Yates County and became a volunteer at the local historical society, eventually settling on editing and writing for their bimonthly publication, Yates Past. In addition to the 120+ stories he has written, he has had two books published by The History Press on local history and is working on a manuscript based on the family letters of Yates County’s Admiral, Frank H. Schofield. His research has produced stories of unusual people and events that add to the rich heritage of Yates County.
