The author served in the Army as a cryptographer with a small, highly secret signal intelligence unit based in the middle of a pineapple field on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. Upon leaving the Army and the Islands, he swore he would never again return. Since that time, he has become an unabashed Hawaii devotee and recently completed his 56th return trip to the Islands.
