Nguyen Minh-Hang was only 19 when, from Saigon in 1957, she found a foreign pen-pal… an American man just beginning to study her language. Just three years earlier she had fled Communist North Vietnam, where she had grown up in the anti-French Resistance Zone during the long Indochina War.
