Cecelia Gillen, as I knew Nguyen Minh Hang, symbolized that which I loved about the Vietnamese people: grace, beauty and love of family. Bright Moon, beautifully captures the essence of who Minh Hang was, and is, as noted, a true love story in letters. Page 1 captured my attention, and brought a smile to my face. As I went through the letters, I became enthralled, uplifted and very moved. Not since reading Harper Lee's "to Kill a Mockingbird, in 1962, has the written word moved me as much Minh Hang's letters. One Sunday, when I took my son's to mass, we ran into Mrs. Gillen, exchanged greetings, and spoke for a few minutes. After Mass, my younger son said to me, "Dad, Mrs. Gillen really likes you." I have never had a nicer compliment. Cecelia Nguyen Minh Hang Gillen was one of a kind, the very best kind. Bright Moon explains why. John F. What a wonderful love story! I knew Mrs. Gillen as a gracious, loving grandmother. What a treat to get to know her as a young girl in Vietnam. This book was a wonderful history lesson as well as a look into to the life of a truly remarkable lady.
