Born into a German missionary family in India, the author’s growing up years included interment camp during World War II, the Mahatma Gandhi movement, and early post-independence years. He attended Berea College, Kentucky, and earned his degree in world history. His working career included teaching at various levels of education and his sports’ background provided opportunities for coaching. His great interests in cultural programs led to a career change. After receiving his master’s degree in recreation and parks management from Springfield College, Massachusetts, he headed various municipal and county departments. In retirement now, he concentrates on writing and photography.
