Biography:

Bertram G. Murray, Professor of Ecology and Evolution at Rutgers University is known for original approaches to biology. He became dissatisfied with the prevailing approaches to population biology and began searching for Universal Laws in Biology. His first major discovery was that clutch size of birds can be predicted from demographic data. This work, described in Population Dynamics: Alternative Models, examines how factors acting independently of “density dependence” limit population size. In these unpublished papers, Murray presents his philosophy of science and challenges conventional wisdom. His critical observations on the publication process and rebuttals to critics will elicit “amens” from open-minded colleagues.
