John McNamee is a historian and writer who grew up on a farm in rural Ireland. He left Ireland at 18 to pursue graduate studies, first in Belgium, then in Spain and Germany, and later post-doctoral research in the United States. For almost three decades he worked for the U.S. government in the field of economic development. The father of two grown children, he lives with his wife in suburban Washington, DC.
