Bob Doran investigated the story of the Custer soldier found on the Rosebud River six weeks after the Battle of the Little Big Horn. They thought he was a survivor of the Custer Fight. With the help of local ranchers, First Cavalry Division and Seventh Regiment Associations an interpretive marker was erected in 1983 near the gravesite of the "Unknown Man" of the lower Rosebud.
