Catherine C. Brooks
Mathews, Virginia
Biography:

Catherine C. Brooks is also author of Walk with Me and Didn’t Know We Were Poor. She lives in Mathews, Virginia, where she has spent a worthwhile lifetime. Both of her children, Wade and Susan Kay, are married and live nearby. She has seen the rural county change over the decades since World War II, from small farms to more of a bedroom community. Other than work in her local church and enjoying family and friends, Brooks spends her time writing magazine articles and books about yesteryears. Her greatest reward is contact with her peers and their descendents.

Celebrating Restorations: Life After the World Wars
When World War II ended and men returned home, younger ones hunted jobs, and older officers retired. Many couples married and began families. New cars, furniture, and other items became available, and businesses opened. Work, higher wages, and availability made it possible to buy and build homes, purchase cars, and have two suits in the closet. Vacations were possible with new places to visit.
